meet our

JANE DABNEY is known throughout the community for her generous heart and philanthropic spirit. Child Advocates is privileged to recognize Jane, a continuous champion for abused and neglected children for over 13 years.

Jane has spent nearly a decade of work and dedication as a court appointed advocate, providing a voice for ten of Houston’s abused children. She has supported and volunteered at numerous Child Advocates events, including the Pull for Kids Classic and Angels of Hope Luncheon as well as the Childspree and Santa’s Warehouse. Jane attended her first ever Angels of Hope Luncheon in 2006 and has been a regular patron of the luncheon ever since. She has served on the Board of Directors for 11 years and is a Lifetime Member of the Friends of Child Advocates.

Beyond her dedication to Child Advocates, Jane is a Managing Director and the COO of the Energy Investment Banking Group at Jefferies LLC. She serves as a member on the Wharton Graduate Executive Board at the University
of Pennsylvania. Jane is a founding member of the Houston 20, a grassroots community organization dedicated to the fight against the trafficking of youth in the area. She has helped with many other initiatives for community organizations including the former schools of her two children, one who is a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Texas A&M University and the younger is an 8th grader at River Oaks Baptist School. Leadership, compassion and unwavering support for Child Advocates makes Jane the perfect honoree impacting the lives of foster children in the Houston area.

about the luncheon

Since 1998, the Angels of Hope Luncheon and Fashion Presentation by Neiman Marcus has grown to be one of Houston’s premier events. It kicks off the holiday fashion season and benefits Harris County’s most severely abused and neglected children. The Luncheon was created to honor the countless angels who have guided Child Advocates in infinitely different ways. Each year, we recognize one or more of these angels for their dedication to the children we help in our community.
This year, Child Advocates is proud to honor longtime supporter, board member and former court appointed advocate, Jane Dabney.

For 35 years, Child Advocates has been helping Houston's foster children.

Every 8 minutes, a child in Texas experiences abuse or neglect. Nearly 3,500 children in the Houston-area have experienced such life-threatening abuse or neglect that they had to be removed from their homes and placed in foster care. Child Advocates trains everyday people to advocate for the best interests of these children in court so they can find safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. While the advocates, who give their time and voices to our children, are at the heart of our mission - none of this critical work can be done without our donors who give so generously to our mission.
